A teenage phenom and former NCAA star took the titles at the Oracle Pro Series – Las Vegas, as Robin Montgomery and Petros Chrysochos emerged victorious in Sunday’s finals at Darling Tennis Center.

Robin Montgomery, the 15-year-old Easter Bowl Champion, rolled through her first three rounds, but was tested in the semifinal and final – needing three sets to capture her first professional title.

“I’m absolutely speechless again,” she said. “Huge smile on my face again!”

After trailing 2-6, 1-3, Montgomery kicked her play into gear and fought back, winning 11 of the final 15 games to take the match 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 over Chinese No.3 You Xiaodi.

“The first set was tough and needed to get settled in.  In the 2nd and 3rd sets I followed the motto of my training center Junior Tennis Champions Center (JTCC) “TRUST YOUR TRAINING”… and I played like it was any other match.

In the men’s final, the Cypriot Chrysochos rolled past Justin Butsch in under an hour, 6-2, 6-1. Butsch had to quickly recover from a 7-6(3), 6-7(3), 7-6(3) victory over Nick Chappell in a 3hr39min semifinal, but was not able to get back to full fitness. Chrysochos was also pushed to thee sets in the semis, but was able to regroup and focus on managing himself and the situation.

“I handled the wind,” said Chrysochos. “Tough conditions out there today. I was mentally ready to play Justin and was patient. Justin was a bit tired today, but I was feeling 150%.”

The 2018 NCAA Champion from Wake Forest was happy with his play throughout the week, and his success will give him momentum as the season continues.

“I’m so happy I got my confidence back this week that was so important. I had some previous first round losses, but I loved the conditions here and it was a fantastic week.”

To celebrate their victories, each champion has a different plan – but both involve their favorite food.

“I will fefinitely go to the Las Vegas strip and have a fancy dinner,” said Chrysochos. “Hopefully a Greek restaurant so I can have Souvlaki. I may go to the casino, but I won’t gamble away my money I just won!”

“I’m flying home tonight,” added Montgomery. “Tomorrow will have my favorite food, my grandmother’s enchiladas.”
